There is a time for everything under the heaven, says the Preacher in Eccl. 3:1-2. About a hundred years ago, a ‘muster seed’ was planted by a group of Yoruba settlers from the South Western part of Nigeria. The ‘mustard seed’ was what is now known as First Baptist Church, Ahmadu Bello Way/Ibrahim Taiwo Road, Kaduna.
The church was initially named ‘St Paul’ Baptist Church, Kaduna. The naming was neither a doctrinal error nor a flagrant mistake, but the missionary zeal in the minds of the founding members that was foretelling the missionary role that this church would fulfilled in her existence as a church. Going through the history of First Baptist Church, Kaduna in her first 100 years, the church has really endeavored to be mobilized, dedicated and committed to the vision of the founding fathers which has shown greatly in souls winning, cross cultural mission, planting of indigenous local churches within Kaduna and its environs, starting a full mission field for the Nigerian Baptist Convention, be part of establishment of a Baptist Theological Seminary, missions visit to almost all the then known Convention Home Mission fields and an International Mission field (Mali). These, and many other mission fits were recorded in the first 100 years of the church.
Therefore, this centenary celebration is a celebration of being on missions with the God of missions for ‘Great Exploits, Great Harvest, and a Great Celebration’! As mission enthusiasts, you are all invited to join us in this epoch celebration!
